09.23.2009 - Intel Thwarting PC Thieves, 2.0
|
Dadi Perlmutter announced the upcoming Intel® Anti-Theft Technology (Intel® AT) version 2.0 during his keynote today. The technology will offer consumers the option of activating hardware-based, client-side intelligence to disable laptops and access to encrypted data if the notebook is lost or stolen. Because the technology is built into hardware for Intel-based laptop and desktop PCs, it provides a local, tamper-resistant defense that works even if the OS is reimaged, a new hard-drive is installed, or the notebook is disconnected from the network. Collaborating with key security ISVs, Intel AT will enable enhanced data protection, PC theft deterrence for consumers as well as a broad number of consumer and business laptops from leading PC OEMs in 2010.
