04.22.2009 - WiMAX Global Footprint Expands. Next Up, Russia.
|
Today in Moscow, Intel joined Yota to help introduce mobile WiMAX 4G embedded notebooks from Acer, ASUS, Lenovo, MSI, Samsung and Toshiba as two of Russia's largest cities - Moscow and St. Petersburg - now have WiMAX wireless broadband Internet access. The two Russian cities now have the leading, most advanced technology where 3G networks aren't even available, leap-frogging a technology generation with the ability to leverage 4G services. Yota is expecting to deploy WiMAX network and services in over 40 Russian cities. Recently, Yota and HTC also introduced the world's first hand held tri-mode WiMAX-enabled Smartphone, loaded with applications and embedded voice and data services and targeted for use over the impressive Yota 4G WiMAX network. Delivering affordable, super-fast mobile broadband to its citizens is just one more proof point that WiMAX continues to accelerate broadband capabilities in both emerging and mature countries around the world.
