04.02.2009 - Silicon Valley Developers to Get Early Access to WiMAX

View Intel-Press related news. What will be the killer app for the 4G mobile Internet? Developers in the Silicon Valley will now have the opportunity to try and answer that question with early access to WiMAX service this summer as part of the "WiMAX Innovation Network." During a keynote by Clearwire's Ben Wolff at CTIA, he disclosed that the network will initially cover more than 20 square miles in Silicon Valley, the heart of the high-tech industry. The network will also bring 4G wireless service to campuses of some of the world's leading technology innovators including early participants Google Inc. and Intel. Cisco Systems, Inc. will provide core Internet Protocol Next-Generation Network (IP NGN) infrastructure equipment. The network access will give developers a head start on the commercial service scheduled to launch in the Bay Area in 2010.
