03.11.2009 - WiMAX poised for major U.S. growth in 2009
|
Last Thursday, Clearwire announced their long-awaited U.S. rollout strategy for 2009. Eight markets are expected to go "Clear" this year, including Atlanta, Las Vegas, Chicago, Charlotte, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Honolulu, Philadelphia, and Seattle. The network will expand up to 120 million U.S. subscribers in 80 markets in 2010, with New York, Boston, Washington, D.C., Houston and the San Francisco Bay Area leading the charge. This news comes on the heels of a newly released study from ABI Research, predicting WiMAX subscriber revenue will grow by 4,500-plus percent in 2009. According to the report, the time-to-market advantage WiMAX is currently experience will lend itself to the availability of more WiMAX-enabled devices and significant build outs not only in the U.S. with Clearwire, but in Japan with UQ as well.
