But every three seconds, an identity is stolen online — that’s nearly 10,512,000 identities each year. Cyber crime is real crime; and it is more profitable, provides more anonymity, and can be more difficult to prosecute than offline crimes. Today Symantec (Nasdaq: SYMC) the makers of Norton software, has launched a crusade against cyber crime.

CUPERTINO, CA (Sept. 9, 2009) – Today’s online thieves will take advantage of any opportunity to steal anything you’ve got: your money, your identity, even your good name. And their methods are getting more devious and sophisticated every day. In fact, Symantec blocked an average of more than 245 million attempted malicious code attacks across the globe each month during 20082. Phony emails, fake web sites and online ads trick innocent victims into divulging personal data like social security and credit card numbers. Cyber criminals then sell the information to the highest bidder on the online black market. Symantec (Nasdaq: SYMC) knows that cyber crime is real crime, that’s why today, the maker of Norton security software, is bringing to market a completely unique approach to online security with Norton 2010.

CUPERTINO, CA – August 10, 2009 – During summer vacation, kids have more time to spend online chatting with friends, playing online games, and just surfing the Web. But this added time on the Internet can lead to trouble if parents don’t have “The Talk” with their kids about appropriate and inappropriate online behavior. Symantec (Nasdaq: SYMC) has identified the top searches conducted by kids online this summer through its family safety service, OnlineFamily.Norton,* and some of the results may surprise parents and leave them asking “Who is Fred?” Symantec also uncovered 90 million “teachable moments” through OnlineFamily.Norton, which are opportunities for parents to start a dialogue with their kids about their online activity. These teachable moments occur when parents are informed by OnlineFamily.Norton that a house Internet rule is being broken, like kids visiting a restricted website, entering a false age on a social networking site, or going over their time limit on the computer.
