(Nasdaq: SYMC) today released the findings of its 2010 Information Management Health Check Survey, which highlights that a majority of enterprises are not following their own advice when it comes to information management. Eighty-seven percent of respondents believe in the value of a formal information retention plan, but only 46 percent actually have one. Survey results also found that too many enterprises save information indefinitely instead of implementing policies that allow them to confidently delete unimportant data or records, and therefore suffer from rampant storage growth, unsustainable backup windows, increased litigation risk and expensive and inefficient discovery processes.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - July 29, 2010 - According to a new Norton study, more than one in three of the top-trending search terms returned at least 10 percent malicious results, putting people’s computers and personal information at risk from cybercrime. It turns out that between February and May, searching for “tropical dreams sweepstakes” could actually have been a nightmare, and searching for “red hot laugh riot” could have been anything but funny. At the peak of their popularity, these two particular search terms returned a staggering 99 malicious links out of the first 100 results.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – July 22, 2010 – Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced the publication of its July 2010 MessageLabs Intelligence Report. Analysis reveals that the percentage of spam containing shortened hyperlinks has increased significantly over the last year. Spam containing shortened hyperlinks hit a one day peak of 18 percent, or 23.4 billion spam emails, on April 30, 2010 doubling last year’s peak levels when spam with shortened hyperlinks accounted for 9.3 percent of spam, more than 10 billion spam emails, on July 28, 2009. In addition to higher peak levels, average daily values also show a significant increase in use of the tactic. In the second quarter of 2009 there was only a single day where when shortened hyperlinks appeared in more than 1 in 200 of spam messages. In the second quarter of 2010 there were 43 days when at least 1 in 200 spam messages contained shortened hyperlinks and 10 days where at least 5% of all spam contained these links.
