Marin County, California (October 26 , 2005) - Sonic Solutions (NASDAQ: SNIC) today announced that the United States District Court for the Central District of California has granted summary judgment for Sonic, ruling that Sonic’s products do not infringe Optima’s patent. In its detailed Order, the Court concluded that “no reasonable fact finder could find infringement” of Optima’s patent by Sonic’s products. “We are pleased with the Court’s findings, which reaffirm our long-standing belief that our products do not infringe the Optima patent simply as a result of their compliance with the Universal Disk Format (UDF) standard published by the Optical Storage Technology Association (OSTA),” said Paul Norris, Sonic’s Senior Vice President & General Counsel. “While we assume that Optima will appeal its loss, we are gratified that the Court has so thoroughly validated our position in rejecting Optima’s claims. We now plan to assess and pursue any claims we have against Optima with all appropriate vigor.”
