What is Pgpool-II?

Pgpool-II is a tool to add useful features to PostgreSQL, including:

IBM COBOL for Linux on x86 1.2 integrates with PostgreSQL through SQL statements embedded in COBOL programs that enable you to retrieve, update, insert, and delete data from a PostgreSQL database. This integration provides a PostgreSQL coprocessor instead of a preprocessor, which means that the compiler translates the EXEC SQL statements into COBOL statements during the compilation process itself, rather than during a separate step before compilation. The COBOL for Linux coprocessor for PostgreSQL is based on the PostgreSQL ECPG preprocessor, modified to support COBOL instead of C. The coprocessor is integrated into the COBOL compiler. When a COBOL program with embedded SQL statements runs, it uses the same library that the ECPG preprocessor uses to run a C program. The PostgreSQL Global Development Group has released an update to all supported versions of PostgreSQL, including 17.5, 16.9, 15.13, 14.18, and 13.21. This release fixes 1 security vulnerability and over 60 bugs reported over the last several months.

The PostgreSQL Global Development Group announces that the first beta release of PostgreSQL 18 is now available for download. This release contains previews of all features when PostgreSQL 18 is made generally available, though some details of the release can change during the beta period.

Estuary now provides native support for real-time data streaming into PostgreSQL via its PostgreSQL materialization connector. With this, users can configure Flow collections to automatically write into PostgreSQL tables — in seconds, at scale, and with exactly-once semant

This release brings major code refactoring, multiple bugfixes, and introduces a new --jobs option to control the number of parallel workers, enabling faster and more efficient reindexing operations.
