Battery causes Dell Laptop to go up in flames (TTID #370)

Dell recently announced a voluntary recall of approximately 4.1 million Dell-branded lithium-ion batteries with cells manufactured by Sony. Under rare conditions, it is possible for these batteries to overheat, which could cause a risk of fire.

Here is a first hand encounter to what just happened. Please also note The owner called and Dell stated his laptop batteries were "OK" this information was provided per the owner of the laptop. The owner stated the laptop was turned off and sitting on the desk plugged in charging when suddenly flames came from the laptop. Due to fast reaction by the owner and maintance crews the fire was out and no one was hurt.
