Using 2,304 Intel® Xeon® 5500 series processors, NASA's Pleiades supercomputer has increased its "brainpower" by 35 percent allowing scientists to make new discoveries and gain greater insight into Earth's system and climate change. Not only does the enhanced supercomputer allow scientists to make new discoveries, the new processors are also environmentally friendly, using only one-eighth the power of previous generation processors to accomplish the same amount of work.
