08.21.2009 - WiMAX Brings City-Wide Wireless Internet to NMU Students

View Intel-Press related news. Northern Michigan University students in Marquette, MI. will begin receiving 3,000 laptops with WiMAX cards starting Aug. 20. The students, two-thirds of whom live off campus, will have wireless access anywhere in Marquette without additional cost. The school is one of the first universities in the world with a WiMAX network, which delivers cable and DSL-like speed via a wireless network that can cover entire cities and neighborhoods. As a key contributor to the deployment, Intel was on campus for today's public demonstration of the network.
