02.03.2009 - WiMAX Expands with 4G wireless broadband in Japan

View Intel-Press related news. Japan joins the new era of mobile Internet with the introduction of 4G wireless broadband WiMAX service in the city of Tokyo and surrounding areas. UQ Communications, a Japanese carrier today, announced details around a soft launch beginning at the end of February to enable the use of high-speed mobile data communication using Mobile WiMAX (IEEE 802.16e). Their WiMAX commercial service, beginning in July 2009, will be the first deployment to aim for covering an entire country with WiMAX service. The Japanese deployment is another key milestone for Intel in promoting its global WiMAX efforts. The company will continue to work with UQ to enhance the user experience with the introduction of embedded WiMAX devices, including Intel Centrino 2 processor-based notebooks and Intel Atom processor-based netbooks in the coming months.
